Dear Reader,
Third Eye Update
Not everyone is remotely interested in the writer's craft, so this email has a short update and a long one. Here is the short update:
Third Eye is coming along nicely. No date yet. When it does come out, it will only have one narrator - Conrad. He will tell the story of the stag do and the parts of the wedding he sees. The hen party and the scenes of the Wedding he doesn't see will feature in a following novella, provisionally titled Hitch.
For those of you who are happy to read the full background, here it is.
You will see from the graph that I have been working on 3i for a year now. You will also see where I took a time out in the spring for a holiday and Covid (only one of which was planned). You will also see a big time-out in the summer when I went off to help Ruth write her book.
You will also see that on 2 occasions, I took out a huge chunk of the book.
On the first occasion, I took out the main story, postponing it until "1".
On the second occasion, I had to take a very, very difficult decision. I had been working on telling two parallel stories: One was Conrad's. Simple. The other was told by a Fae Squire, in her own words and translated from the Fae.
This is 'Alicia's Story', and she is Faith's assistant at the hen do/wedding. I think it makes interesting reading. However, telling Conrad's story and giving you the life of a non-human was too much for one book.
Alicia's story has been extracted and is already half of the novella which covers the women's view of the wedding. They get up to some strange things, and Conrad doesn't get to hear about them during Third Eye.
Also, it means that readers who aren't 100% interested in the wedding can skip it.
You can see from the graph that I am making good progress on 3i. The top line (90,000 Words) is not the target. It will be longer than that. Nor can I give you a completion date.
However, you have all been so patient that I thought you deserved an honest update, and that was it.
I am also pausing right now, because I have something else up my sleeve which may interest audio lovers. More in a few days.
Thanks again for your support,
Mark Hayden.
